Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear
on the face. Though changes are gradual, there may
come a day when you may wish to have a facelift, that
is, smoothing out the build up of loose skin about the
face and neck. One
of the most commonly performed procedures, a facelift
provides for a remarkable improvement in your
appearance. Face-lifting is the ideal treatment for
correcting a sagging jaw line, falling cheeks and a
blunted neckline. There are many methods to face
lifting and advancements in these procedures, have
evolved significantly over the past decade years. In
the past it was common to have surgeons approach face
lifting by only pulling the skin tighter.
Unfortunately this resulted in an unnatural
"stretched" look. Today we have newer and
better techniques that relocate the deeper tissues and
drape the skin tension free over the repositioned
tissues. This gives a more natural longer lasting
result.
How
long will a facelift last and will anyone know that I
had it done? Much of the answer to these questions
depends on your underlying anatomy, your individual
desires and how much aging you have experienced.
Irrespective of your age, you can expect a facelift to
improve your appearance and outlook. You should look
younger and well rested. My personal taste is for a
natural look. I don't particularly like a very tight
appearance. The younger you are the longer you can
expect the results to last. If you are older, than you
will experience a more dramatic improvement. However,
there is also a greater possibility of tissue
rebounding. Incisions are hidden behind the ears and
in natural skin creases. These usually heal as thin
thread like lines which are well camouflaged.
Following surgery you can decide to go home or spend
the night in the hospital. You should not have any
pain but I will prescribe medicines to assure your
comfort. Ten days to two weeks after surgery most
patients return to normal social activities enjoying
the benefits of a more youthful look.
